Comparing the Biblical information regarding Antichrist with the eschatology of Islam.
Session Seven
Islam:
Muslim's are looking for the coming of a person, (the last Imam) who, within a seven-year period, will:
Daniel said the King of the North will:
Paul says the 'man of sin' will
Ezekiel said the 'chief Prince' of Gog and Magog will:
Joel says :
Micah says that Messiah will return and destroy the Assyrian (Antichrist)
Jesus says:
John also saw:
Up to this point we have not read what Matthew (Jesus) says about the second coming and the warnings and cautions that accompany it. So please read Matthew 24:
Will Islam produce that infamous man we read about in scripture who goes by various names: Antichrist, The beast, the Man of Sin, The King of the North, the little horn, the Prince that shall come, the Lawless One (to list some of them)?
In this session we want to explore what Jesus said about him.
Matthew chapters 24 and 25 are almost entirely devoted to a final and crucial discussion Jesus had with his disciples ... the very night before he was betrayed. It was all about His return at the end of the age.
But let's read from chapter 23:33.
Mt 23:33-39"Serpents, brood of vipers! How can you escape the condemnation of hell?
- until you say, Blessed is He who ...
When will that be?1 Zec 12:10 "And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn.
Jesus has pronounced a serious judgment upon Israel. Because of their refusal to acknowledge Him as the Son of God, the Promised Messiah, he cuts them off from the position of privilege. What position is that? It is the honor of being chosen as the vehicle by which the gospel will be proclaimed to a lost world. The church will be commissioned in their place. Individually a Jew can come to Christ, but no longer are they the 'care-takers' of the Gospel. That has been given to the church. For the previous three and a half years, the church and Israel have existed side by side. But from this point on, Israel has been de-commissioned.
What follows is a prophecy that involved both the Jews of that day and the church, from that point and onward to our time and on into the future.
It will involve warnings to those living when 'the abomination of desolation' makes his appearance.
Matt 24:1
Jesus and the disciples have now moved away from the temple proper. This temple was called Herod's Temple. It was still under construction, renovation, actually, that had begun the year before Christ was born. Since most of Jesus' ministry took place in the north, (Galilee), each time he and the disciples would come to Jerusalem they would notice the changes and upgrades.
On this occasion the disciples were particularly impressed.
Verses 2,3 (parallel Gospel)
Four disciples are very interested in hearing more. They speak with Him privately, and what follows is very detailed and applies to us today. We would not have this if these four had not asked the questions.
When will all of this happen? (the throwing down of the temple structure)
What will be the sign of Your coming? (Do you see what they are assuming?)
What will be the sign of the end of the age?
When Jesus talked about the destruction of the temple He was not talking about the end of the age. But the disciples assumed that he was. They had no idea that it would happen in their life-time. It happened about 35 years later.
4,5 The very first thing Jesus warns about is the matter of being deceived. Who would want to deceive? The Deceiver, the Devil has a great interest in deceiving God's children and the rest of the world, for that matter. Satan has been against God from the very outset, from his fall after the rebellion. He can read the bible just like we can. He knows what his outcome is going to be ... according to the Bible, unless he can change. it. When we look at the sequence of end-times events that the Muslims believe and promote we begin to see just how Satan thinks he can void God's prophecy.
So deception is out there. Satan will use whoever he can to distort things as much as possible. If he can get some of us to distort unwittingly, he will use that to the fullest.
The very fact that we have so many differing views on the end-times is evidence that Satan is doing some deceiving – All of the views are not all correct. But, overall, there is wisdom in agreeing to 'be ready, for we do not know what hour our Lord may come'.
6-8 Jesus predicts wars and rumours of wars. We know that the entire history of man has been plagued with wars and rumours of wars. That means there would be no point in Jesus even mentioning it. So why does He? It must be that the wars and rumours of wars, and the size of wars, would be increasing in some way. The same holds true for earthquakes and pestilences. They will increase as time goes by and the end draws near.
Jesus refers to these – in the King James and also in the New King James as 'the beginning of Sorrows. But you will notice that the NIV says, 'beginning of Birth Pains.' This is closer to the intended meaning. There are several other references to this. For example: 1Th 5:3 For when they say, "Peace and safety!" then sudden destruction comes upon them, as labor pains upon a pregnant woman. And they shall not escape.
'They' tell me that labor pains start quite a few minutes apart ... half an hour? Twenty minutes? And that they increase from there. That is, they get closer together. I think the rule is ... when they are 5 minutes apart ... do something quick. But labor pains also become increasingly more severe. And then there is a transition to 'hard labor'. That's is when the woman seriously begins regretting she ever got pregnant to begin with. Or so they tell me.
This analogy is used by Jesus (and by Paul) intentionally ... because it fits so well.
So, all of these physical things going on in our world, the earthquakes, the wars, the diseases, are all on the increase. And they will get more and more painful. Is there some kind of joy waiting for us when its all over?
9,10 Deliver you up to tribulation and death ... hated by everyone. Is that something to look forward to? Actually, this began in the book of Acts with the early church. Then there were some periods of rest before it started again. Then it started in earnest when the Roman Catholic church put evangelical Christians on trial, punished, jailed and executed them for over a thousand years. So when did it stop? It never really has and now it is happening in extreme proportions as the Muslims take care of evangelical believers in the same way.
So what does that have to do with the birth pains? Are we into hard labor yet? No ... not yet.
11,12 There was to be an upswing in the amount of false prophets appearing and this would coincide with a church growing cold.
We have never had so many false prophets at one time. Christian TV channel abound with them. Don't get me wrong, there are some good ones. But watch out for all those who tell you what you want to hear, or what they offer you in the way of benefits and blessings, or what they ask of you in the way of support for a ministry that is INCREDIBLY needed while it looks suspiciously like they are far better off than you or anyone you know.
We have never had so much lawlessness as exists now. Everyone, Christians included, do their own thing ... and resent any rules or demands placed on them in any way. The buzz-word is Self, and Self-expression.
During all of this, the gospel is to go forward to the ends of the earth. 13-14
So ... this where we are today?
The very next things mentioned by Jesus is the surrounding of Jerusalem ... and the abomination of desolation. This is talking about the anti-Christ. Remember that Daniel said after the second battle between the two kings, the king of the North goes to the Holy Land (with an army?) ... gets some kind of support from non-religious Jewish leaders, then pollutes the sanctuary.2
16-21 These verses are very clear that the tide turns against residents in Jerusalem ... very quickly. Can you imagine Jesus actually saying Don't even go back into the house to grab a coat.?
22. This verse talks about the days being shortened. Daniel said there would three and half years. Revelation says there will be three and half years or 1260 days, or 42 months. Are we to understand that 1260 represents days that are already shortened? In other words, perhaps to start with it would have been 14 or 15 hundred days? To me it seems strange, if not impossible, to come up with a different number of days. I think the days are shortened in a different manner. I think the days become 18 hour days instead of 24 hour days. Where on earth would I come up with something so .... different?
Look at Revelation 8:12 The fourth angel sounded his trumpet, and a third of the sun was struck, a third of the moon, and a third of the stars, so that a third of them turned dark. A third of the day was without light, and also a third of the night. It is too co-incidental to think that Jesus would mention shortening the days ... and then Revelation mention it ... and it not be the very same thing.
23-24 False Christs. This would be a time when the Mahdi is really making himself known. He is so well liked. He brought in such riches. He is so powerful. He has put Israel in its place and he has made it clear that their religion and that of Christians is totally wrong. He calls himself the Christ. (Or his side kick)
And how will believers know that it could not possibly be the real Christ?
Jesus says his coming will be witnessed just as clearly as lightning bolting right across the sky.
So verse 27 says what the coming of Christ would look like. Verse 28 says what the world will look like ... a terrible sight. A battlefield.
Verse 29 says when it will happen. At the end of this terrible time. A trumpet will sound (the last one,) and the dead in Christ will rise first and ALL the elect will be gathered by His angels.
This is not Armageddon. This is a gathering of the elect. They will be taken to heaven. They will receive rewards. They will celebrate with Jesus at the wedding supper of the Lamb. They will accompany Him back down to earth ... for Armageddon and to rule and reign with him for a thousand years
.
We will stop here.
We are told quite a bit about this coming world leader, Satan’s counterfeit messiah, who will someday soon rise in power . . .
- He will be indwelt and empowered by Satan
- He will rise to power first over 3 and then 10 nations.
- He will somehow be 'diverse from the rest' so we are not certain he will be European
- He will bring 'peace', yet conquer through treaties and war
- He will be very, very popular around the world
- He will speak blasphemies against the God of gods
- He will not regard "the desire of women"
- He will be a great talker and speech maker
- He will likely be charismatic and physically attractive ... like King Saul
- He will receive what appears to be a fatal wound to the head
- He will appear to be resurrected from the dead
- His right eye may be blinded and his arm completely withered
- He will enforce a "peace" plan or resolution (covenant) upon nation Israel
(It doesn’t say he signs this treaty, but he enforces some coming 'peace plan' or resolution)
- He may help to get the new Jewish Temple built in Jerusalem
- He will appear to perform miracles ("lying signs and wonders")
- He will require that everybody on Earth receive a mark or identification on their
forehead or hand and nobody will legally be able to buy or sell without it
- He will stand in a new Jewish Temple in Jerusalem and declare he is "God"
- Unspeakable terror and war will then engulf Earth for exactly 3½ years (1260 days)
- He will direct the slaughter of millions of Christians and Jews who come to know the Lord
- He will lead the armies of the world into Israel . . . Armageddon.
Motivation to be a Muslim martyr :
The 70 virgins etc.
It was reported in the hadeeth of al-Miqdaam ibn Ma’di Karb that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: “The martyr (shaheed) has seven blessings from Allaah: he is forgiven from the moment his blood is first shed; he will be shown his place in Paradise; he will be spared the trial of the grave; and he will be secure on the Day of the Greatest Terror (the Day of Judgement); there will be placed on his head a crown of dignity, one ruby of which is better than this world and all that is in it; he will be married to seventy-two of al-hoor al-‘iyn; and he will be permitted to intercede for seventy of his relatives.”According to another report, the martyr has six blessings from Allaah. According to other reports (the number is) six, or nine, or ten
The Prophet said to a man: 0 servant of God, if you enter Paradise, you will get what you will desire, what your eyes will be pleased with. The Prophet said : If an inmate of Paradise will wish to have a son born to him, he will get it. Its stay in womb, its weaning away from milk and its youth will come to pass at the same time. He also said : The inmantes of Paradise will be beardless and hairless. Their colour will be white and their eyes painted with collyrium. They will be youths of 33 years of age. They will be sixty cubits long and seven cubits broad. He also said : The lowest rank of an inmate of Paradise will have eighty thousand servants and seventy two wives. In short there will be such bliss in Paradise which no eye has seen, no ear has heard and no heart has conceived.", Al Ghazzali
"A man asked the Prophet : 0 Prophet of God, will the inmates of Paradise have sexual intercourse ? He said: Anybody among them will be given sexual strength of seven, persons among you. The Prophet said : An inmate of Paradise will have five hundred hurs, four thousand unmarried women and eight thousand widowed women. Each of them will keep embracing him for the duration of his whole worldly life time. He also said: There will be markets in Paradise in which there will be no buy and sale, but there will be men and women. If any man will wish to have sexual intercourse with a woman, he will do at once. The Hurs will sing in Paradise on divine purity and praise-we are most beautiful Hurs and we are for the honoured husbands.", Al Ghazzali
1Ro 11:26 And so all Israel shall be saved: as it is written, There shall come out of Sion the Deliverer, and shall turn away ungodliness from Jacob:
2Co 3:15 But even unto this day, when Moses is read, the vail is upon their heart.
16 Nevertheless when one turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.
2Da 11:31 And arms shall stand on his part, and they shall pollute the sanctuary of strength, and shall take away the daily [sacrifice], and they shall place the abomination that maketh desolate.
Session Seven
Islam:
Muslim's are looking for the coming of a person, (the last Imam) who, within a seven-year period, will:
- Bring an end to sin and chaos
- Receive great help from prophet Jesus, who returns to earth.
- Promote world-wide peace.
- Bring in universal belief in Islam.
- Bring in great wealth (to Muslim people everywhere?)
- Destroy crosses (Christianity). Slaughter, behead those who will not accept Islam.
- Destroy Dajjal (whom they say will call himself Jesus)
- Rule from Jerusalem
Daniel said the King of the North will:
- promote peace (making a seven-year treaty)
- Bring in great wealth
- destroy enemies
- destroy the temple (worship)
- at the end of the seven years, totally destroy the King of the South
- rule from Jerusalem
- come to a sudden end.
Paul says the 'man of sin' will
- promote a religion,
- Make use of powerful 'signs and wonders'.
- Be destroyed by Jesus at his coming with his saints.
Ezekiel said the 'chief Prince' of Gog and Magog will:
- come against Israel when they are at complete peace.
- Be destroyed by God, who uses various means, including the elements.
Joel says :
- A nation, large (without number), has come up into the land of Israel and have totally pillaged it.
- A trumpet sounds: The Day of the Lord comes about ... and a supernatural army destroys the large nation and its leader, who has come into Jerusalem.
Micah says that Messiah will return and destroy the Assyrian (Antichrist)
- "And this man (the Messiah) shall be the peace, when the Assyrian shall come into our land: and when he shall tread in our palaces, then shall we raise against him seven shepherds, and eight principal men. And they shall waste the land of Assyria with the sword, and the land of Nimrod in the entrances thereof: thus shall he (the Messiah) deliver us from the Assyrian, when he cometh into our land, and when he treadeth within our borders." (Micah 5:5-6, KJV)
Jesus says:
- False prophets will convince many of some 'alternate' truth. (perhaps Islam?)
- Churches will grow very cold
- The 'abomination' mentioned by Daniel occurs in the temple
- A 'sweeping' attack is made against the Jews
- A period of tribulation like never before takes place on the earth.
- The 'days will be shortened', otherwise there would be no survivors.
- False Christs will arise with incredible miraculous powers, deceiving many.
- Immediately after the tribulation, the sky is darkened and the sign of Son of man is seen in heaven.
- There will be a trumpet sound after which angels 'gather the believers' into the air to meet the Lord.
- a white horse and rider going out to conquer. The rider has a bow. No mentions of arrows.
- A red horse goes out to kill – the rider has a sword. 25% of the world's population is killed.
- A black horse goes out symbolizing widespread starvation.
- A pale horse goes out symbolizing death. Many die by 'sword', famine, disease, and by animals.
- Many believers dying for their faith.
- Heaven opened and unbelievers running to hide from God – The Day of the Lord is about to take place in which the Antichrist and his unbelieving army will all be destroyed.
John also saw:
- A 'beast' who was taking control of the world by force.
- A second 'helper' beast (called 'the False Prophet) who manages to change the monetary system to a cashless one, requiring that people take a mark in their right hand or forehead in order to buy or sell.
- The beast makes war with Israel.
- Unable to get at the 'remnant of Israel, the beast turns on Christians.
- Believers, living and dead, appear before the Lord (in heaven) to receive their reward.
- The beast is being controlled by a rider on its back.
- The beast finally (at the end of the seven years) throws the rider down and totally destroys her. Economists of the world are in shock.
- Jesus returns to earth, with his bride, (and a supernatural army?) and destroys Antichrist.
